Itinerary
Your short affordable 2 days Tanzania safari Tarangire National Park will begin at 7:30 am with pickup from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport latest by 9.00 am. After the briefing about the safari, you will embark on a beautiful two-hour drive southwest to Tarangire National Park. You will reach in time for lunch at your lodge. After lunch, have some time to relax and then go on an afternoon game drive in the park. You will learn some more about this wonderful park as you drive along looking for mammals, birds, and more. Tarangire is a lovely quiet park, off the beaten safari track, most famous for its huge elephant population and named after the Tarangire River that crosses the park.
The landscape of Tarangire National Park is primarily open savanna dotted with acacia woodland and the mythical upside-down trees, the baobab tree, the largest trees in Africa, with the areas next to the river containing dense patches of riparian woodland and even some palm trees. The 2,850km2 park hosts a dense concentration of wildlife, especially during the dry season when large numbers of migratory wildlife such as Elephants, Zebras, Wildebeest, Eland, Buffalo, and other antelope concentrate around permanent water sources. Elephants congregate in herds of up to 300 animals! And the large numbers of game animals attract numerous predator species, especially Lions.
In fact, after the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania! After your exciting first game drive, you will return to your lodge to freshen up and relax. Then have dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast at the lodge/camp, embark on a morning game drive in the wonderful Tarangire. Tarangire is one of our favorite Tanzania game parks, partly because it is quieter than the other reserves, but also because of its incredible natural beauty. It really is an awe-inspiring place, comprising granite ridges, river valleys, mixed vegetative landscapes, and swamps.
Tarangire is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as Beisa Oryx and Gerenuk or giraffe gazelle are seen regularly. You’ll also look for Waterbucks, Warthogs, Bushbucks, Hartebeests, Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, African Rock pythons, Yellow Baboons, Black-faced Velvet monkeys, Cheetahs, Leopards, Hyenas, Caracals, Honey Badgers, and African Wild Dogs.
Another attraction of Tarangire is its many termite mounds that dot the beautiful landscape. The ones that have been abandoned by termites are often home to families of Common Dwarf Mongoose. Tarangire National Park is also home to more than 550 bird species, including dazzling Yellow-collared lovebirds, Common Ostrich- the world’s largest bird, and Kori Bustard – the world’s heaviest flying bird. After a game drive, you will drive back to Arusha with a drop-off at Arusha city hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for your onward flight at the end of this amazing 2 days Tarangire Safari in Tanzania.
