Full Itinerary

Best time to visit:

June to October: Sunny, low humidity, little to no-rain. It’s a safari high season in Tanzania mainland, making it great for a combo trip

December to Mid-March: Hot and sunny with occasional short showers – whale shark’s sightings are more likely on this time near Mnemba and Mafia Island

Day 1: Prison Island

Your guide will pick you at your hotel at 08:30 am or meet at stone town beach at 09:00am, and board traditional wooden boat. Begin with a scenic 30-minute boat ride across turquoise waters to the historic Changuu Island. Originally built as a prison in 1893 and later used for quarantine, the island now offers a peaceful escape. Wander past crumbling stone ruins and along a frangipani-lined path once used by recovering patients. At the heart of the island, meet the slow-moving giants, Aldabra tortoises, some over 150 years old, while vibrant peacocks add a splash of colour to the setting. From the shore, enjoy sweeping views back toward Stone Town before returning by dhow at 11:30am.
