Destination Highlights
Trip Overview
Discover one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations on this full-day safari into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve. Often called “Africa’s Eden” or “the Eighth Wonder of the Natural World,” the crater is the largest intact, unfilled volcanic caldera on Earth. Formed over 2.5 million years ago when a massive volcano collapsed, it now shelters an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within its steep, forested walls.
The crater floor spans over 260 square kilometres (100 square miles) and is home to over 25,000 large animals, including the rare black rhino, big cats, and massive herds of wildebeest and zebra. It offers one of the best chances to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) in a single day.
Highlights
- Descend 600 meters (2,000 feet) into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater
- Explore a diverse ecosystem of grassland, marshes, forests, and soda lakes
- High chances of spotting black rhino, lions, elephants, and flamingos
- Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch on the crater floor
- Expert-guided game drives in a 4×4 safari Land Cruiser
