Trip Overview
This exciting day trip takes you to Arusha National Park, located just a short drive from Arusha town. Though compact in size, the park offers an incredible variety of landscapes and wildlife, making it a perfect destination for a quick yet enriching safari experience.
The park is home to fascinating geological formations created by ancient volcanic eruptions, which gave rise to striking natural features such as the Ngurdoto Crater (often called the “Little Ngorongoro”) and the Momela Lakes, known for their changing colours and flocks of flamingos.
On this trip, you’ll enjoy a combination of a game drive and a walking safari, offering both close-up wildlife encounters and breath-taking scenery. Accompanied by an armed park ranger, you’ll explore on foot and gain deeper insight into the park’s ecosystem, flora, and fauna.
Note: We also offer a special 3-day Arusha National Park camping safari for those who want to explore the park more extensively. For more information, [visit this link].

Day 1: Arusha National Park Day Trip
Your adventure begins at 7:00 am, when your guide picks you up from your hotel in Arusha. After a short scenic drive, you’ll arrive at Arusha National Park, a hidden gem nestled at the base of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain.
Despite being one of the smaller parks in the country, Arusha National Park boasts astonishing biodiversity and a stunning variety of landscapes, from lush montane forests and open savannahs to the tranquil Momela Lakes and the Ngurdoto Crater, often referred to as the “Little Ngorongoro.”
Enjoy a game drive through the park in a 4×4 safari vehicle, keeping an eye out for giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, and a wide range of bird species, including flamingos and hornbills. While Arusha National Park is not home to lions, it offers a peaceful and uncrowded alternative with incredible scenic beauty and unique wildlife encounters.
One of the highlights of the day is a guided walking safari led by an experienced armed ranger. This rare opportunity allows you to step into the wild on foot, track animals by their prints, and learn about medicinal plants, insects, and ecosystems that many overlook from a vehicle.
At midday, relax with a picnic lunch in one of the park’s designated areas, surrounded by nature and breath-taking views of Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day.
In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Arusha, enriched by a day of exploration, fresh air, and unforgettable memories.
